Online / Skype Terms of Service

Before we engage in any online therapy, your suitability for this mode of therapy will need to be established, so please contact me in the first instance and I will send you my guidelines for engaging in online therapy.

Reasons why online therapy would not be suitable:

– suicidal feelings [email the samaritans:]
– drink problems
– limited access to a computer
– difficulty with your internet connection
– under 18 years of age
– have language problems
– engage in substance misuse
– self-harming behaviour

In these instances, feel free to contact me and I will help refer you to someone who can help. As in most cases, if you are desperate for help please contact the Samaritans (as above, or check out website)

Please bear in mind that if you are in the USA, as you will be having therapy in the UK, you will need to understand and accept the UK laws and ethical codes of conduct that I belong to.  Hypnotherapy can also be carried out via Skype although awareness of potential internet issues may affect the work.  I adhere to the codes of ethics of the professional bodies I belong to, which means any information disclosed remains confidential. No identifying information would be divulged unless I felt that you or someone close to you was at risk of harm or there were other concerns that we would discuss together initially.  Regular monthly supervision involves discussion of clients in order to help me support all of my clients but no identifying information is ever disclosed.

In order to use the email facility, please would you note the terms of service.  By engaging with email counselling, this deems your acceptance of these terms.

Please familiarise yourself with the information regarding email exchange and the cost of the service.

You are aged 18 or over and agree:

To submit only true and accurate information and do not deliberately omit any information which may be significant.

Either of us may decide to discontinue our therapeutic relationship at any point.

You are seeking my services for personal therapy and not undertaking research for private use or for publication.

This email service is not a substitute for face to face therapy nor does it provide emergency assistance of any kind. If you require emergency assistance, you agree to source appropriate services in your local area.

I hold no responsibility for direct or consequential loss due to internet service failure or computer malfunction.

Any suggestions made are not a replacement for professional medical advice.  It is up to you, the client, to seek additional support as requested.

No warranty or guarantee can be offered through these services as to the effectiveness of counselling.

These services are provided from my base in Wiltshire, UK and therefore are governed under the laws of England and Wales.  A copy of this form will be sent to you in our first email contact for you to sign and return.
